A wonderful surprise found its way to my mailbox last week!
I wasn’t really familiar with the whole concept of Mardi Gras, aside from what I saw/heard on TV and in movies/series, so I did some researching. Internet is a wonderful thing, isn’t it? Mardi Gras, also called Shrove Tuesday or Fat Tuesday, refers to events of the Carnival celebrations, beginning on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany (Three King’s Day) and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday”, reflecting the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season.
The holiday of Mardi Gras is celebrated in New Orleans, Louisiana, the day before Ash Wednesday. Usually there is one major parade each day (weather permitting); many days have several large parades. The largest and most elaborate parades take place the last five days of the Mardi Gras season. In the final week, many events occur throughout New Orleans and surrounding communities, including parades and balls (some of them masquerade balls). O’Neal also mentioned that there are some celebrations held in St Louis (Missiouri) as well, which was news to me as I thought it only happened in New Orleans. I’m always happy to learn something new! :)
Also, I thought I’d share a happy moment, which is basically when you hear the song you’ve been madly in love with for the past 10 years – being performed live, like right there in front of you! I swear there is nothing better in life than the feeling during those few minutes! The whole gig was great, but oh, that song! Pure love! <3
